Slovene National Theatre Drama Ljubljana (SNG Drama Ljubljana) is Slovenia's largest theatre house with over forty resident actors, ten to twelve productions yearly and thirty active productions, on average giving 450 shows a year and having over 90,000 spectators.
SNG Drama Ljubljana has been a member of the European Theatre Convention since 1996. A mixture of foreign and Slovene classical pieces with fresh foreign plays and first productions of works by important modern Slovene authors shows the double vocation of SNT Drama Ljubljana, which is both a national theatre, preserving national and artistic traditions, and a modern theatre, which follows Slovenian and international festivals in Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Czech Republic, Poland, Rumania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, South Korea, Greece, Italy, Austria, Montenegro, Hungary and Serbia, and a number of successful bi-lateral exchanges has been organised.
Dushan Jovanovic was born in 1939, in Belgrade. Jovanovic is a director and dramatist, and simultaneously works as a professor at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) in Ljubljana.
His plays were performed in Europe, in the USA, Australia, Mexico and Iran. He has received many awards for his work in Yugoslavia and Slovenian, and he is also a winner of “the big Preshern’s award” - the largest Slovenian recognition for achievements in culture.
One of his most highly valued awards is the Obie award –( award which is rewarded from American theatre critics), for the dramatic text “Liberation of Skopje“. Dushan Jovanovic gets a status of an honored citizen of Skopje in 2007.
