Through the past 50 years The Ohrid Summer Festival gained its affirmation as one of the most important cultural manifestations in the Republic of Macedonia. Alongside that, it succeeded in keeping the pace with the European and global cultural flows, reckoning among the privileged and most important festivals in the world. This fact is also confirmed with the membership of Ohrid Summer Festival in the Association of the elite European festivals for 15 years now.
This year, Ohrid Summer with firm steps and dignity is marking its way to its goal which is: accomplishing and realization of the most qualitative edition.
Ohrid Summer, with its many years of tradition of performances with affluent artistic capacity and the privilege of originating from the ancient cultural history of the city, this year of 2011, it will offer an exceptional artistic program; with events that are expected to cause great interest from the public, especially among the admirers of music, theatre and other kinds of art.
With sincere pleasure, we invite you to Ohrid this summer from July 12th to August 20th, so we can mutually enjoy in the wonderful magic called Ohrid Summer.

The Ohrid Summer Festival was found in 1961. The first official festival event was the concert, held by the Macedonian opera Prima-Donna Ana Lipsa Tofovoc on 4 August 1961.
The Festival has established its own term 12th July till 20th August, as traditional every year. It is financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia, and sponsors, some of them members at the Club of Friends of the Festival. The Patron of the Festival is thePresident of the Republic of Macedonia.
Since 1994, the Festival is a member of the European Festival Association. During the last 48 years, many national and international music and theatre artists and ensembles have performed at the festival. Among the most eminent ones we can name: Zubin Mehta, Jose Carreras,Ennio Moricone, Mstislav Rostropovich, Jessye Norman, Victoria de Los Angeles, Gideon Kremer, Maxim Wengerov, Vadim Repin, Julian Rachlin, Henryk Szeryng, Elena Obrascova, Katia Ricciarelli and others.
